Government Application of B2B E-mail Marketing? No Contest.

When the Montgomery County, Ohio, Clerk of Courts alerted me via snail mail that I was juror number 00084 in jury pool 1018, I was ecstatic to finally get to utter the phrase: Aw, jury duty? I’ll see that Quimby kid hanged for this!

The Cranky Communicator - Why about 90 percent of B2B advertising is wasted
Posted by Jack Lilienthal at 3:31 pm | Filed In Smart, Strategic, Technical | Add a Comment
When I was younger, I often got aggravated about the waste of money associated with B2B advertising. Now that I’m older (albeit, perhaps not any wiser), I find myself amused.

Live from Scottsdale….it’s the Digital Marketing Mixer (Day 2)

I think it will take some time for me to process all of the information that I have learned while here. All of the speakers have been very knowledgable about their subjects and presented well. And sometimes they are simply “experts” because they are one of the few people in a specific social media area that are doing it well and actively, such as microblogging.

Live from Scottsdale - It’s the Digital Marketing Mixer (Day 1)

To forewarn you, this will sound like a blatant oversell for MarketingProfs and their Digital Marketing Mixer. But I truly learned more in the first 2 hours here about social media than I could have efficiently on my own. Listening to people like Chris Penn, Chris Brogan and Scott Monty (now you have to Google them) is inspiring to social media newbies like me. I think that the information I learned today has validated not only that TriComB2B is moving in the right direction, but also that social media is a looming force for the industrial and manufacturing sectors. It is only a matter of time…..

Survey Simplicity and Honesty

I recently made some changes to my cell phone plan with Verizon Wireless. While at work I received a call on my cell phone inviting me to take a “one question” survey. Normally I would just hang up, especially since I was busy working, but it appeared to be a simple task and so I figured I would humor them.

Someone Tell Me Why I’m Blogging

MarketingProfs recently published B2B Sales Lead Generation: Integration of Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 Media report. The report stated that 57% of organizations have no blogging effort of any type in place — no publishing or participation or monitoring of any kind. Why? My hunch is this: C-level execs want growth. They want new customers. They want new markets. So the best way to mind our marketing backs is to make sure we deliver something tangible – leads. Thus, our marketing efforts are heavily weighted toward lead generation and lead nurturing.

The Cranky Communicator

Let me say right off, I still believe in the power of a thorough outline before embarking on any writing project… even full-page ads. And I still believe the No. 2 pencil is the most beautiful and productive communications tool ever invented. Okay, so I’m a Luddite. But after 30-plus years in this business, I’ve earned the right to be opinionated as well as cranky.

When industrial-strength CMS is not enough

Jeff Goldblum, as Ian Malcolm in Michael Crichton’s screenplay of Jurassic Park, uttered one of my favorite lines from that blockbuster. Speaking of the scientists responsible for recently resurrected reptiles, Malcolm said: “They were so busy wondering if they could, they didn’t stop to consider whether or not they should.”
